Saturday, Jun 18, at the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk in downtown Des Moines, the firm brought over 60 participants who strapped on their walking shoes and pledged thousands of dollars to help with the Association’s fundraiser.
“Whitfield has always had a strong presence at the Heart Walk but this year’s event was a special one for us,” noted firm member Gary Norton, a participant in the walk. “Firm employees wore T-shirts in remembrance of two highly valued members of the Whitfield firm family, Shirley Stewart and Tim Walker.”
The Heart Walk is just the most recent philanthropic cause that Whitfield and Eddy has supported. In addition to performing hundreds of hours of pro bono legal work each year, in the past five years, the firm of about 100 employees has given thousands of dollars to over 75 charitable organizations in the Des Moines area.
One example is the firm’s regular monthly fundraising event called “Casual for a Cause” in which attorneys and staff donate money to a designated local charity in exchange for the opportunity to dress down for a day. Employees nominate their favorite local charities, one is selected each month and the voluntary donations are made to support the organization. Casual for a Cause has proved to be an enormous success raising up to $1,500, depending on the charity and the month.
Whitfield and Eddy is proud of its philanthropic support within the community.
