Community Commitment

From philanthropic support to public service and pro bono representation, our attorneys and professional staff give their time, talents, and resources to making Iowa a better place to live, work, and play.

Lead, Serve, and Volunteer

As part of the firm’s commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession, Whitfield & Eddy is one of the lead sponsors of Drake Law School’s Law Opportunity Leadership Program. This important program provides law students from underrepresented groups with mentorship, leadership training, and guaranteed internships with Des Moines-based companies and law firms.

Our attorneys and professional staff contribute substantial time, energy, and philanthropic support to a wide array of social service and community organizations. They perform public service work and volunteer their time on the boards of educational institutions, charitable, service and faith-based organizations, youth sports leagues, arts organizations,  and local government entities.

Pro Bono

Our commitment to pro bono is driven by a dedication to ensuring fair and equal access to justice for all members of our society, regardless of their financial means or background.

Our attorneys participate in the Polk County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), which provides legal representation to indigent residents of Polk County. Our attorneys have served on the VLP Board and donate their time to represent individuals and families in need.

We encourage our attorneys to pursue their individual pro bono passions wherever they may lead. We take great pride in the pro bono efforts of our legal staff and their commitment to sharing their expertise with those who cannot afford legal representation. To honor their good work, we annually recognize those attorneys who have committed more than 50 hours of time to pro bono matters.

Legal Societies

Our attorneys keep pace with the legal community by participating - often in leadership roles - in state and local bar associations and a host of legal societies and professional organizations.

These involvements enable us to keep updated on the latest developments in the law, interact with public officials and members of the judiciary, and build relationships with colleagues outside the firm. They also present crucial opportunities for our staff to share their knowledge and experience with the legal community by publishing legal articles and hosting educational events and symposia.

Our attorneys regularly participate in the following bar associations and legal societies, among others:
