Jennifer B. Chavez-Rivera is an associate attorney practicing in the firm's Business and Banking Practice Group. She works with financial institutions and lenders on commercial lending transactions and matters involving bankruptcy, collection of debts, collateral recovery, workouts and related issues. She also works on real estate and wills, trusts, and estates matters.

Jennifer is a high honors graduate of the Drake University Law School where she was Vice President of Drake Law’s Student Bar Association and Articles Editor for the Drake Law Review. She received a B.A. in both Political Science and Ethics and Public Policy from the University of Iowa, was a member of the University’s Honors Program, and a Research Fellow at the Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates.

Prior to receiving her J.D., Jennifer was a law clerk at Whitfield & Eddy and provided legal research and writing for attorneys and clients in various practice areas, including banking law, construction law, real estate law, and probate. She also worked as a Judicial Intern for Chief Judge Anita Shodeen at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Iowa, where she prepared draft opinions and conducted legal research for cases on the docket. As a Cady Law Opportunity Fellow at Drake University Law School, Jennifer also interned at the Wells Fargo Legal Department in Des Moines and assisted inside counsel with legal research and analysis related to state and federal banking law issues.

Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish, Jennifer assists Whitfield & Eddy clients with interpretation and translation services. Jennifer has also performed interpretation and translation for Iowa Legal Aid and the Domestic Violence Intervention Program in Iowa City, Iowa.
