Steve Marso and Bryn Hazelwonder Obtain Defense Verdict and Counterclaim Award in Jury Trial

04.21.2023

During the week of February 27, 2023, Whitfield & Eddy Law attorneys Steve Marso and Bryn Hazelwonder represented clients, who own two parcels of property and a restaurant in Afton, Iowa, in a jury trial in Union County (Creston). The clients were being sued by a contractor for payments the contractor claimed were owed for construction work done on one of the parcels of real estate. The clients disputed that they owed anything to the contractor, and they counterclaimed against the contractor for costs to complete the construction work and for damages caused to the restaurant building. On March 2, the jury returned a verdict that the clients owed nothing to the contractor, and that the contractor owed the clients $20,000 for damages caused to the restaurant building.
