07.28.2021

Attorney Kay Oskvig presented “Preferred Pronouns in Litigation” to the Whitfield & Eddy Law attorneys on July 28, 2021. The Labor & Employment practice group and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee co-sponsored the presentation.

The presentation analyzed state and nationwide resources and discussed how judges and litigants have adopted gender-neutral pronouns and clarified the record. The presentation also summarized current Iowa and Eighth Circuit court rules, judicial codes of conduct, rules of professional conduct, and statutes/regulations.

Starting January 1, 2021, Iowa lawyers are required to have at least one hour of diversity/inclusion or attorney wellness CLE every year.  For more information on the topics of diversity, equity, or inclusion for your law practice, business, or non-profit, contact Kay Oskvig by email or call 515-288-6041

Research and presentation assistance of the topic was provided by law clerks Katelyn Kurt (Drake University Law School class of 2021) and Shianne Thomas (University of Iowa College of Law class of 2023).
